The MPD18 is the easiest way to add genuine MPC pads to your setup. This MIDI-over-USB pad controller for DJs, programmers, producers, and other musicians is built around the pads and controls from Akai Professional's industry-standard MPC series. The MPD18 is an expressive and intuitive instrument for the studio and stage.
The heart of the MPD18 is its bank of 16 velocity and pressure-sensitive MPC pads, an Akai Pro exclusive. You can access three different banks of sounds from the MPC pads for a total of 48 sounds at your fingertips. The MPD18 also borrows the MPC series' assignable Q-Link controllers, enabling you to control nearly any parameters in your software in real time. You get an assignable Q-Link fader for natural, hands-on control of your most-used parameters, and MPC Note Repeat enables you to quickly input patterns such as hi-hat parts or drum rolls. The MPD18 also has 16 configurable presets so you can program it for the way you work with different hardware and software.
The MPD18 sends MIDI information over its plug-and-play USB interface so you can use it with your Mac or PC without installing any drivers. The USB connection even powers the MPD18 so the included USB cable is all you need for portable production. The MPD18 can control nearly any MIDI software, as well as MIDI hardware, such as synths, sound modules, samplers, sequencers, drum machines, and more.
The MPD18 gives you the control feel of the MPC in a super-portable instrument with a compact footprint that's easy to fit in any setup.

My son is a beat guy, we’ll call him B. He scratches, samples and mixes all kinds of music. It’s actually quite a fascinating art and requires perseverance, talent and a fair bit of expensive equipment. Not the kind that is available at your local Best Buy, but the kind that requires a special sort of retailer, one that is found online.
The object of our desire was an Akai MPC1000 drum machine sampler. Now these retail between $900 and $1100 depending on who your talking to, so this is one of these purchases that you hold your breath a bit when you hit the payment button, it’s big ticket stuff when dealing with strangers. B did his DD and narrowed it down to an online retailer we found on ebay. Best price, best information and a whole bunch of extras to go with the unit. So we click on to his online store front and purchase the item. Great site, easy to use and informative.
The next morning I receive a call on my mobile, Hip Hop Tools pops up on my call display and I’m thinking now what? A man on the other end of the line introduces himself and says he’s the owner of Hip Hop Tools and he wants to thank me for my purchase! Imagine that. He then tells me that he’s shipping it out tonight and if I have any questions or problems to call him personally and he will look after it. Four days later, there’s a box at my door. A perfectly packaged, brand new MPC1000 has arrived. As B unpacks it he realizes that there is a catalogue of samples that was to be included and was missed. I emailed my friend at HipHopTools and he responds within the day with a link to download the great big file of samples with an offer to send the disk.
I wish that I was a beat guy too, because I would love to buy more stuff from these guys, the experience alone in a world so full of attitude and bad service was worth it. Not to mention they deliver the goods at the best price.
